I have been asked to get the word out for Beyond Words, a program starting this month that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts right here in our community. It is open to high school students and the coordinator particularly wants to extend this invitation to include homeschoolers. Adults can participate also! All activities are free of charge, including art supplies; participants will be expected to contribute one piece to the final exhibition at the Washburn Cultural Center in November.
Kick off and organizational meeting will be on April 23 and activities continue until the final art exhibit on November 1. More info. can be found at: http://www.beyondwordsproject.org/
Join us for homeschool swim at the Bayfield Recreation Center. Starting January 4, 2017, homeschool swim will be weekly on Wednesdays from 1-2:30.
The final swim of the spring will be April 26. Homeschool swim was scheduled to end on April 26 but I spoke with the folks at the Rec. Center and they are willing to continue it until May 24. Yeah! The pool will continue to be available for us to use every Wednesday from 1 -2:30.
Cost is $5 per child or $15 per family. There is no need to register or sign up in advance – just come for any or all times as you are able. Don’t forget to bring your own towel. Preschoolers welcome!
World of Wheels in Superior, WI sets aside the 2nd Thursday of each month for Homeschool Skate. Sometimes this coincides with a Duluth or Superior school district holiday and the rink can get quite busy, so you may wish to check school district calendars before going. Admission is $4.00. Skate rental (if needed) is an additional fee. (Quad rentals are $2.00 and inline rentals are $3.50.) Skating is from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. More information and directions can be found at their website: wowskatecenter.com
If you have an event or activity that you believe would be of interest to homeschoolers in the Chequamegon Bay area, please use the Contact Me page to notify me. I’d be happy to publish your event on this website!
